Retiring RPS Protocol and Upgrading to ExchangeOnlineManagement Module

As of June 1, 2023, Microsoft will be retiring the Remote PowerShell Session (RPS) protocol from all Exchange Online connections. This change affects users who are currently using New-PSsession or Exchange Online PowerShell v1 and v2 modules to establish an RPS connection.

To ensure a seamless transition, we recommend upgrading to the latest ExchangeOnlineManagement module version 3.0.0. If you have previously installed any earlier versions of this module, uninstall them by running 'Uninstall-Module ExchangeOnlineManagement' in an elevated PowerShell command prompt.

For those who are using the -UseRPSSession parameter, it is essential to discontinue its use immediately. This parameter will no longer be supported after July 1, 2023.

To establish a connection using the new module, follow these steps:

1. Uninstall any previous versions of ExchangeOnlineManagement module.

2. Install the latest Exchange Online Management v3 module from the official website.

3. Use Connect-ExchangeOnline instead of New-PSSession to establish your connection.

Microsoft recommends using the REST-based Exchange Online PowerShell v3 module, which has been generally available since September 2022. The company will continue to invest its development resources in this module, ensuring a more secure and reliable experience for users.
